The Project

The project is all about the big challenge of shorthanded offshore sailing in the Classe Mini. I started the project with the ultimate goal of sailing the Mini Transat 2029, single handed across the Atlantic on a 6,5m racing yacht. To sail the Mini Transat, the boat must first be prepared, and I must be qualified. One of the Qualification requirements is at least 1500NM in official Classe Mini races. The other is a 1000NM solo non-stop qualification course.

To reach the 1500NM in races, I will sail different races in the class. In 2025 I sailed my first two races, the first being the Trophee MAP (220NM single-handed) in the beginning of June. Without sailing this race I would not have been allowed to enter any big 300NM+ races. This race went well, I sailed it conservatively, because I was still getting used to the boat and the water here. As my second race I sailed the PURU Transgascogne (620NM dual-handed), sadly we had some problems on the way back, meaning we needed to take a shortcut straight to France.

In 2026 I will sail some major races in France like the Mini Fastnet, and I will make sure I have finished my 1000nm qualification course. The 2027 season will be all out for me, With this season my goal is to already be qualified for the Mini Transat 2029, and with that also the SAS (Les Sables d’Olonne-Azores-Les Sables d’Olonne Single Handed). With all of these races I will be sure of a starting position in the Mini Transat 2029, since usuallythere are more entries than spots available, and the more miles you sailed, the higher your priority on the list.

In 2028 I will be finishing my last internship and studies, this means I won’t be able to sail a lot, but I will sail one short race in the beginning of the season to qualify for the SAS (Les Sables d’Olonne-Azores-Les Sables d’Olonne Single Handed). The SAS will be in July 2028, meaning I will be done with my studies and have all the time to focus on the project.

The Mini Transat will be in September 2029. For this race I will be all in, no time to work next to it, to give myself the best chances off finishing and a good result.

Funding is really important for this entire project, so reach out if you want to help me sail the Mini Transat 2029 on Boatsje!
