The Project
The project is all about the big challenge of shorthanded offshore sailing in the Classe Mini. I started the project with the ultimate goal of sailing the Mini Transat, single handed across the Atlantic on a 6,5m racing yacht. To sail the Mini Transat, the boat must first be prepared, and I must be qualified. One of the Qualification requirements is at least 1500NM in official Classe Mini races. The other is a 1000NM solo non-stop qualification course.
To reach the 1500NM in races, I will sail different races in the class, the first being the Trophee MAP (220NM single-handed) in the beginning of June. Without sailing this race I would not have been allowed to enter any big 300NM+ races. This race went well, I sailed it conservatively, because I was still getting used to the boat and the water here. As my second race I will sail the PURU Transgascogne (620NM dual-handed). After these races, I will be training again in the Netherlands. I will also join some single-handed races on Dutch waters, as well as the 1000NM solo non-stop qualification course in the end of the summer.
For 2026 I will sail as much as possible next to my study, my aim is to sail at least 2 major races in 2026 and if possible sail the SAS (Les Sables d’Olonne-Azores-Les Sables d’Olonne Single Handed) If I sail the SAS, I am completely qualified for the transat 2027.
The Mini Transat will be in September 2027. For this race I will put a hold on my studies to prepare in France, sail races and sail the Mini Transat.
Funding is really important for this entire project, so reach out if you want to help me sail the Mini Transat 2027 on Boatsje!
